Morning
If you’re traveling through Floyd County Dec. 7-8, Winterfest and the Festival of Trees is a real treat. Nearly three dozen vendors will be on hand, selling exquisite handmade items, decorated Christmas wreaths and trees will also be available, and much more.
Head over to the Floyd Farmers Market afterward to visit jolly old St. Nick and grab stocking stuffers and other gifts for family members and friends.
Afternoon
Venture over to Rocky Mount in Franklin County for lunch and downtown shopping. With its many local shops and restaurants, walkable streets, and vibrant musical heritage, Rocky Mount is a great place to experience the small-town charm of the Blue Ridge Mountains during the holidays.
You can also visit the Rocky Mount Train Depot, which becomes the “North Pole” during the holidays. The kids can enjoy inflatables, and Santa will happily pose for photos. Inside, there are games and activities for kids to enjoy.
Evening
The best way to end the day in Franklin County during Christmas is a trip to the Land of Lights. The drive-thru light display at the Franklin County Recreation Park on Sontag Road lights up the night through Christmas night. The half-mile loop features more than 50,000 holiday lights and displays.
Another fun-filled event to consider is Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas at Ferrum College, which runs from Dec. 5-15.
