Morning
Slow down and experience some Appalachian Christmas traditions at the annual Old Time Appalachian Christmas Festival in downtown Galax, held on the second Saturday in December.
The streets are filled with vendors with hand-crafted gifts, canned and baked goods, food, heritage demonstrations, live music, photo ops, Santa, wagon rides, and lots more fun!
Afternoon
Make the short drive to Marion, known as America’s Coolest Hometown, to explore the Community Christmas Trees Display at the Smith County Museum. Hand-made ornaments, ribbons, and bows combine beautifully to represent specific time periods, Smith County Century Farms, community groups, and other interests.
Afterward, set aside some time to purchase unique, locally made crafts and gifts at the Mini Christmas Market in downtown Marion before enjoying a delicious meal at the Wooden Pickle.
Evening
Kick off your night at the High Country Lights event at Felts Park in Galax. This musical light show features a quarter of a million Christmas lights choreographed to your favorite sounds of the season. The show can be seen nightly through January 1, 2025. Admission is free.
The family-friendly Christmas display is centered around fun, joy, and excitement for children of all ages. Carriage rides, food trucks, visits from Santa, and much more fill the park with Christmas magic.
