SWVA Holiday Itineraries

Norton & Wise County

Morning

Begin your day in Big Stone Gap at the Festival of Trees at the Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park. Open through Dec. 31, the event’s centerpiece is a stately Victorian home. While it houses the museum’s incredible collections, the community comes together to deck the halls and all four floors of the beautiful home with lavish holiday decorations.

Afterward, visit downtown Norton for the Holiday Storefront Decoration Contest. Walk through the city and enjoy the inspired storefront displays, then cast your vote for the Community Choice Award for the best decorated storefront.

Afternoon

Lunch in Norton is always a treat, whether at the famed Wood Booger Grill, Southern Craft BBQ, or one of the other incredible local eateries.

After filling up on the tasty local fare, enjoy a scenic drive to Wise, which offers gorgeous natural scenery only found in Southwest Virginia. To get a real feel for the town’s charm, stop by The Inn at Wise, which opened in 1910. The colonial-revival landmark, beautifully decorated during the holidays, is one of the region’s true gems.

Evening

Cap off your day with a fantastic meal in Wise at Piggy Went A Smokin, a roadside diner that has gained legendary status for its delicious smoked pork and catfish. Reno’s of Wise is another great choice for families.

After polishing off your dinner, a trek through Downtown Wise to enjoy the sparkling holiday light displays is the perfect way to end a great day.
